  • Broadcasting Foreign Channels And The Law

    Hi

This is my very first post so a total newbie here. I hope some of you may be able to offer some sound advice.

I won't beat around the bush and make up things that isn't true, so here goes.....

I am looking at setting up a private function room with the intention of screening football on a saturday afternoon, via a motorised dish to pick up a foreign channel.

From what i have read online it seems that there is no law in place to disallow me from doing this.

    Just to clarify:

    - I am NOT showing sky sports or sky / premier league copyrighted material such as logo's, etc
    - The channel is a foreign channel that the motorised dish will pick up when moved
    - What will be screened is basically a Greek or Arabic channel to a private, members only audience.

Can anyone advise if this is actually legal or not? The court case the other year where the landlady won her case in the European Court also backed up this, and this is what i am pretty much researching into doing.

Many thanks and i hope you can help.

I found this. It is from 2010, so there may be something more recent, but this would certainly answer your question as things were then:

I would suspect that you would still need an entertainment license too, which i assume you already have anyway?!
