  • Indemnity Insurance

    Hi all

So we are embarking on the house moving lark, we have a buyer, apparently a cash buyer, who in all the surveys and searches has had an environmental search done on our house. Apparently there is historical landfill within 250m of the property and because of this we have "failed" the search. His lawyers are saying that we have to provide indemnity insurance. Having wasted hours on the Internet we can't seem to find who provides this kind of insurance (I'm sure I've not worded it properly in google!)

Can anyone help with pointing us in the right direction of getting this insurance policy please?

The solicitor, or whoever is doing your conveyancing, should be able to arrange this. Several companies including AVIVA & ZURICH, provide these policies, but they might only be available through solicitors. I'm not sure if they are provided directly to the public...you'd have to make enquiries.

If the property is suspect, then that is reflected in the offer. If the would be buyer hasn't put in a low bid, then obviously the risk is not what he claims it to be.
