A week ago today, My eldest lad reversed off the drive and hit a parked car across the road. The car was partially blocking our drive and and the accident happened at walking pace. Technically my sons fault but the other party contributed to the cause.
There was not much damage to the other car and all he needs is a new rear light cluster. The owner was able to drive the car away.
We decided depending on cost that we might deal with it privately however we both informed our insurance companies of the indecent.
I was contacted by our insurance company on Friday to say that they would be cancelling the insurance on the car as we had failed to disclose some facts to them, not going to get into that as I'll be making a complaint, I've also asked for a refund of all payments made to the date they have chosen to state that insurance was cancelled.
I'm going to have to deal with this privately and as long as the costs are not excessive my son has some savings that could pay for it.
In the meantime I have found out that the other car has been on their drive way all week, awaiting a visit to the approved dealer, while they have been given a hire car (est £400 already) which my insurance and now me will have to pay for.
I've told the other party I want to deal with this privately, have offered a deposit as a measure of my good faith, stated that I will find the garage and get the car repaired and (hopefully) get them a courtesy car.
Their insurance are (strongly) recommending that they do not cancel the claim and that they continue to deal with it.
Can anyone help with some persuasive arguments or advice for when I spk to their insurance company today. I've got to get them out of that hire car and into a courtesy car ASAP otherwise the cost is just going to spiral into unaffordability.
