Recently I touched a car that actually caused the accident. I was driving through a residential road where vehicles were parked both side. A car was coming towards me and so I pulled into a space to allow her to pass, as I had just began to pull away again, she suddenly braked, causing my driver door to touch her rear offside bumper causing a thin sliver of her paint to transfer on my door and she scratched a portion of my door 'bumper'. I asked her why she had braked and she said 'to let you pull away'!!!!
She then claimed that scratches by the score (pardon the pun) on her rear bumper had already been done, then changed her story to tell me it was actually the other side that had been done before and that I had done this side.
This is impossible as the marks on my door, which I was willing to forget, were minimal and I simply could not have done the damage to the corner of her bumper covering an area 6-8 inches high and 12-14 inches across!!
She discussed with her male companion nearby about getting a price for the respray. I told her I could easily do it for the cost of one tin of paint from Halfords ( I alreadfy have other materials as I had just fixed my daughters bumper) but did not admit liability for something which I do not think I actually did.
Yes, I did touch her car, but could not have done the damage. Where do I stand?
