  • Getting access to a seized dog

    Hi,

My dog was seized by the Met police due to a biting incident. I have hearing on the 17th for a destruction order which I am fighting and i need to get access to the dog so that an Animal Behavourist can carry out a temprament assessment.

I have tried calling the police, and as helpful as they are, they cant do anything becuase they can never find my case on the system. I dont have a reference number to give them so I'm relying on the arresting officer to call me back.

Time is getting on, and it could well take more than two weeks for this officer to call me.

Does anyone know of any known proceedure for this kind of thing. Who I should contact or is there a form i'm supposed to fill in? What can i providfe to the police to help them track my case down?

My advice is to contact solicitors who specialize in this area. I have heard similar cases in magistrates court and a good solicitor may help you (depending on the circumstances) to get an order where the dog must be muzzled in public and not let off the lead but is allowed to live.

I think you need to visit the police station, if you are put off by the officers at the counter, ask to speak to a Sergeant, failing that ask to lodge a formal complaint.
