Hello,
3 years ago, I started a new job as a seafarer. As a VWT25 owner, i know they dont fare well without daily use, so I asked my very trusted best friend if he'd like her for while I'm at way. He came to collect her, there was no changeover of any documents, I remained the legal owner and registered keeper.
He was happy, made a little Facebook of the vans adventures, etc etc. He then called one day to let me know he'd put her in the garage... for a total of £14,000. I told him i was really angry about that, and there's no way I could afford it. He said he was paying, as we share the van anyway, and he had just inherited a lot of money.
I was still angry, and messaged the mechanics to say they didn't have any right to my vehicle, and they said it was all pulled apart so they would have to do the work now.
A year later, still waiting for the work to be done. It's clearly overcharged and not even good work and should never have taken this long.
The mechanic messaged last week. He is finished. And my best friend has vanished, blocked me on everything, won't reply to me at all.
So this leaves me with only two possible outcomes.
1. He refuses to pay and leaves me with the outstanding bill of about £8,000. Which I do not have, nor did I consent to.
2. He pays and steals the van.
Either way, I have been royally screwed by someone I trusted so much.
What legal footing do I have here? I have evidence of every email when I found out he'd taken her in for work without my permission, saying he isnt the owner and I didn't give permission.
As far as I see it, he's their client who owes money to them and I'm the owner? Is this just wishful thinking? Thank you.
