  • Neighbour's Log Burner

My neighbour had a log burner fitted last December, and we have some serious concerns.

The log burner is in the front room.

Their hob packed up on Christmas Day. I saw this on Facebook as I can see her posts.

They have started to cook on the log burner, they have no adequate ventilation apart from patio doors.

Just recently past few days, we are concerned that they are proposing to start burning wooden palletts.

One of the wooden pallets, has blue paint, the the 2 we don't know.

We are concerned at the fact that burning wooden treated palletss could cause a chimney fire, we have taken photographs of the pallets as they are in the back garden.

We have been looking up online and it clearly is illegal to burn treated wooden palletts.

Can anyone please give us some advice.

The bloke is a Councillor, so we are concerned if Environmental Health won't get involved as we spoke to them on Thursday, they were supposed to have test me an out of hours numbers if we can smell obnoxious fumes, but failed to do so.

Have you reminded Environmental Health that you are waiting to hear from them?

When installing the log burner, did your neighbours have a flue liner put in?

Have you offered to help them with meals?
Lawyer (solicitor) - retired from practice, now supervising solicitor in a university law clinic. I do not advise by private message.

Litigants in Person should download and read the Judiciary's handbook for litigants in person: https://www.judiciary.uk/wp-content/..._in_Person.pdf

Yes they had a liner put in.

I haven't heard from from the Council.

Your final comment about "have you helped them with meals", I'm sorry but the bloke is a fking Councillor, with his own taxi firm, he goes to foodbanks taking the p*ss because he doesn't want to pay supermarket food prices, and is clearly abusing the system.

He tells people at walkin football which he runs "I've got loads of money" but he goes to foodbanks, and can't clearly afford to burn proper fuel in the log burner, and can't afford to buy a new bloody hob!!

Only some pallets are safe to burn. Painted ones are not and I believe the paint means they belong to a company which reuses them. See here:
Ragin Fire Pallets can be found everywhere, and most of the time, you can get them for free. So wouldn't it be great if we…

          Do what atticus suggests above.

Do not let them off the hook. (Although to be honest I'd be very surprised if the fact your neighbour is a councillor will make any difference to how they deal with this)
