  • Powers of security guards.

I would be interested in comments on the following TV series available on youtube on the activities of security guards. From my searches security guards have no more powers than other citizens to make a citizen's arrest. To make such an arrest you have to have witnessed the crime including in the process of or have reasonable evidence to believe so (of course what is reasonable is never stated). https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga...60/section/24A. In the videos security guards are seen removing people to a holding room, taking details, confiscating items, and searching people's bags and other possessions. Unless the TV company has edited out permission being granted for this this is appalling behaviour and I wonder what others think. Of the highlights is one of the security guards saying "If they walk out ..we are dragging them back to the control room" and of a minor that the minor was "2 seconds from BEING DRAGGED BACK TO CONTROL". All this for people who we can reasonably have been told that they were under arrest and showed no signs of trying to abscond. They seem to have the impression that they can take people's details and are within a whisker of impersonating the police.

I'm glad you brought this to our attention and I hope that something will be done about it.

I was watching this series, and I have to say that I was appalled by the behavior of the security guards. It is clear that they have no more authority than any other citizen to make an arrest, and yet they are seen here taking people into a holding room, taking their details, and searching their belongings without any permission. I've worked for oh holding for a couple of years, and my colleagues and I have never abused someone. In this situation, we could have been fired very quickly. This is unacceptable behavior, and I would be interested to hear what others think about it.

Within the text of their post, where it says ‘oh holding’ they have disguised a link to a Ukranian security company (I don’t advise clicking on it). I believe this is usually done to promote the website to improve its search engine ranking https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sear...e_optimization

I do hope you are not referring to the origional post. There is nowhere in this thread the text 'oh holding'. Perhaps the origional has been deleted?

I would like the more experienced to provide some omments on my origional post as this is an important issue and spam or phishing or commenting on it is distracting from the main thrust of this discussion.
