I've really benefited from advice given on the Wills and Bereavement forum and I can’t thank the respondents who have helped me there enough.
Although connected I have a more general enquiry and I wasn’t sure where to ask it.
What Data Protection rights do I have if any, when a third party solicitor hired autonomously by the executor of a Will (of which I was a beneficiary), has been given my personal and potentially sensitive information by the executor.
The solicitor in question was given by his client (the executor) my personal contact info, name, email address, tel no etc. And was also given I believe a copy of my driving licence, NI number, bank account no, sort code etc, The solicitor in question also asked for copies of my bank statements at one stage (unnecessarily it turns out) and then complained that the bank account nos and unrelated transactions on what I provided were redacted.
The executor stopped using that particular solicitor in mid 2020 and has now instructed a different firm - I’m not sure why he’s changed his representation.
As a third party, what are my data protection rights regarding
- asking a third party’s solicitor (instructed past or present) to tell me what personal and sensitive info they hold on me and what they have done are doing with that info.
- Denying a third party solicitor if they ask for my personal or sensitive info in the future.
