  • Car finance rip off

Hello, I bought a car on finance two and a half years ago for a five year term. With my wife we recently had a chat about it and she said that she saw the car online for 5,000£ and when I bought it I bought it for 6,000£. At the time we didn't communicate this unfortunately. I think that the sales advisor from the company took that 1,000 for herself by taking 6,000 from the finance company and transacting only 5,000 to her company, which I have no record of, I tried calling them and asking for the records but unfortunately they say they don't keep them which I think is a lie. I have a record and the papers from the finance company, but no invoice or receipt issued from the auto dealership. Advice? If honest I really want to uncover this, I remember the advisor acting shady and under pressure for some reason!

The onus is on you to prove this situation and without any paperwork or evidence to back it up, you are going to have an uphill struggle. You should ensured all details around price etc had checked out prior to signing the contract. How can your wife be certain the car you got on finance was definitely priced at £5,000 and not, let's say, the same car but a different spec or model?

As you have nothing to go off other than your wife's recollection, I would personally let it go and move on. If you do want to pursue it and think there is some merit to what your wife said, then you can make a subject access request for all information they hold about you which should include any sales contract or information. I would be surprised that they would have erased all trace of the sale within 2 and a half years when there are usually financial requirements to keep records for 6 or 7 years.
If you have a question about the voluntary termination process, please read this guide first, as it should have all the answers you need. Please do not hijack another person's thread as I will not respond to you
