I'm currently 22, do not involve myself in any clandestine activity, but when I was 19 I was given a police caution for possession of cannabis. It was a small amount, about 0.4g.
I've since cleaned up my act and working full time. I made some mistakes as a student, as we all do.
I want to teach English in China or Taiwan, but I know I will be blacklisted if I apply with this conviction.
I understand that this will get filtered from a DBS check 6 years after the offence, so in just over three years. I know that Chinese establishments would ask for an ACRO reference however. Information from and surrounding ACRO is very vague, and even ringing them up they don't seem to have a clue what they're on about, so I have a few questions for any legal experts.
1. What type of reference do these Chinese employers ask ACRO for and would they disclose a caution to them
2. Is there any length of time that ACRO filters minor offences like this, in a similar fashion to the DBS check.
3. I was reading that ACRO do a record removal, but only for one of two reasons
a. The police offer giving the caution was guilty of misconduct of some sort. (He wasn't)
b. It is in the greater public interest to remove the record.
In reference to the above, can anyone give me examples of how people have had records removed through the public interest field, to see if these apply to me, or if they could in the future.
If anyone has any more information about the processes involved, please do tell me.
Thank you for your help
