  • NHS Dental Charges Penalty Notice

    Hello,

I've recently been hit with a dental charges penalty notice. I'm young and come from a low-income family so I've never had to pay for dental. I recently turned 18 and when I went in for my checkup, I thought it would be business as usual. I ticked the box I thought related to me (it had something to do with being dependent I think, I don't remember) and signed the letter. No one explained how it worked or what the repercussions were. I'm unemployed and currently self-educating so I'm simply unable to pay this and feel as though I shouldn't have to pay for something that was clearly a misunderstanding. There was no malicious intent.

Also, the dentist provided a filling to a tooth that I didn't request which took the treatment from a band A to a band B although I told him I was there for a checkup.

Is there any way out of this?

    Thanks
