I had a folder of confidential data sent to me through the normal post, this was an A4 ring folder with approximately 100 pages of sensitive information that would not normally be expected to fit through a standard letter box but was just in a plain brown envelope franked as a large letter.
I was not home and the postie could not fit this through my letterbox, when I got home some 5 hours later the envelope was torn open and lying on top of my bin at the side of my house which is on an open plan estate.
I would have thought it was incumbent on the company sending this to ensure given the nature of the contents to send this by signed for post not just as a large letter as the postie wouldn't know what the contents were.
I complained to the company concerned but they say they are not responsible and that the fault lies with the Post office.
What are other peoples thoughts on this point? Should I persue this with the company? the Post Office? or put in the hands of the ICO?
