  • Shoplifted primak while on holidays

Me and my friend are in london for sveral days. We wnt to the primark in oxford street and get chougt by shoplifting. We understand how bad that is, we will never do it again, i dont know what were we thinking. I need your help and some answers. They cought us when on our way out, took as to security room. We try to stole items for about 300£, and damaged items for 170£, because we was taking of the price from items. We are form another europe country.. we give them our names, numbers and adresses. They told us that we get a letter, we will have to pay or otherwise we will need to go back to uk and get to the court. How much do we have to pay to them? Is that price will be devide by 2 or each of us have to pay whole price? Whats going hapennd to us? We cant tell our parent, we will try to get the letter first before they see it. About what cost its going to be? Please help, we are desperate. Thank you.

You'll get a whole stream of letters, so you'll have to be watching the post arriving for ages, so your parents don't find out.

You should ignore the letters. They will ask for money, but you don't have to pay. You won't be taken to court. The letters will contain threats of court action, but no action will be taken. Do not reply to the letters, just destroy them.

Oh, and for goodness sake, don't do any more shop-lifting. Next time, the store may call the police, and you could get into real trouble. This time round, the police were not called, and nothing bad will happen - as long as your parents don't open the letters.

                Hi there
We are quite used to hearing from people caught shoplifting.
You can view the letters they will send you here:https://legalbeagles.info/forums/for...rs-rlp-and-dwf

In the UK we have two systems of justice
One is the criminal side, where the police are involved, and offenders attend a magistrates court and if found guilty are punished
The other is a civil system, where a person who thinks he has been damaged financially can sue in a county court for recompense.

you will both receive letters demanding an extortionate amount for some imagined losses.
These letters will not be from Primark, but a "civil recovery" firm.
The last time one of these companies tried to sue some admitted shoplifters, the judge strongly criticised the company

As you live abroad there is no chance you will have to return to visit court.
They will not report the incident to any police authorities anywhere
They will send their letters and then give up (that's what we have been advising for years and so far no one has said we have been wrong)

The envelopes will probably have the companies logo on them (nothing about police or courts)

Thank you!! And another question. We are banned for 10 years!! It means that we can enter the every primark store in the world for 10 years??? It wont happen evenr again, we never do that, but is it true? We can not enter the store anywhere? They told us that if we enter any primark, they call the police and we will go to the prison for 7 years!!

They do talk a lot of rot to frighten people, altho' I would have thought not going to primark ever was a good thing!

In the UK they can refuse you permission to enter their premises.
This means that if you do go in, and they notice you, they can then escort you out.
If you are caught shoplifting after being banned you could be charged with burglary (a more serious criminal charge than simple theft)

Just going in after being banned is a trespass, and in your circumstances it is a civil offence, not criminal.
However there is a law making certain types of trespass a criminal offence punishable by upto 6 months in prison, but this does not apply to you.

What the rules are in other countries I cannot say, but I suspect the chances of them circulating your details worldwide are quite slim.
And if they did the chances of being identified from photos even more unlikely

                      Hey everyone;

Something very similar happened to me, and I am a foreigner. I am deeply ashamed of what I did, and I would never do something like that again. The trouble is that I am very scared that this incident could show up when I try to apply for a new Visa. Is that a possibility? Can they do something?

                      Please help me

If the police were not involved the incident will not show up

some countries you would be "Banged up Abroad", other countries severe measure to ensure you never be able to do it again! lesson learned??
