  • Help with shoplifting police warning - scottish law

    Hi there,

I am looking for some help with regards to a warning issued by the police for shoplifting.

First off, this is my first ever offence or crime committed of any kind. It was completely out of character, and my only excuse was being a poor student who needed some new clothes. I understand how wrong my actions were, and am absolutely mortified with myself.

The story is - i visited 3 separate stores in a shopping centreand took the tags off some clothes in the fitting rooms, and put them into my bag.

as i left the shopping centre, i was approached by a security guard and taken into an office within the last shop i visited. all items were taken and i immediately confessed to having taken other items from other stores. the police were called, and a total sum of the cost of the items was calculated to be around £160.

I was issued with a official police warning for the last store i visited. the police said that there was enough evidence in this last store to prosecute, but they are issuing a warning in this instance. they then said that they would have to check the evidence for the other stores, even though i admitted to taking items from the other 2 stores.

I am just wondering, what will happen if there is enough evidence in the other two stores? I have already been issued a warning, will this count for the other two stores - ie. are all 3 of these stores counted as separate offences? if not, can i be brought to court for the other two stores? having already recieved a warning from one store, will these thefts (even though all committed at the same time) be counted as further offences at court?

Feeling very very guilty and scared about what to expect. Any help would be appreciated.
