  • Complicated advice required.

First things first, I'm male and not acting for myself. This is a complex issue and I'm not 100% on the finer points.

My basic understanding is this. A friend has been married to a man for some time, having married in Gibralter under UK law. They now live separately in another EU country.

He has left her and is cleaning out the bank accounts and assets, having already rinsed her bank accounts and pinched her (hefty) inheritance. Hes basically abandoned her, but she is living in a property she bought but unwisely permitted him to register in his name.

Personally, to me he appears a conman and has deliberately taken advantage of a gullible and vulnerable lady.

My request is this: how does she obtain a divorce whilst living in the EU, and how does she get a fair settlement financially? I have advised her to make her own paltry savings inaccessible or he's likely to take them and is indeed trying to now.

She is currently in Spain so what should she do ideally? Apart from seeking a lawyer out there, I'm at a loss to advise her what the hell to do for the best. Any advice gratefully recieved. I'm basically concerned she's being ripped off by someone she thought loved her and is stealing her inheritance. He had nothing before he met her. Thanks.

Sorry, but I doubt you will receive much advice that will help your friend, other than to obtain legal advice asap as you have already said.

As stated this is a complex situation.

As it is abusive perhaps one of the UK domestic abuse helplines can help, or she could try this Spanish one :https://www.supportinspain.info/orga...onal-helpline/
