  • Can a step parent obtain parental responsibility?

Just a quick question, can a step parent obtain parental responsibility?

My friend is a step parent and he is going through a few family issues and could be dragged to court to gain parental responsibility as he is actually more of dad to the child than the actual biological father.

    Yes: section 4A Children Act 1989 https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1989/41/section/4A

But are you suggesting that your friend does not want to acquire parental responsibility?
Lawyer (solicitor) - retired from practice, now supervising solicitor in a university law clinic. I do not advise by private message.

Litigants in Person should download and read this: https://www.judiciary.uk/wp-content/..._in_Person.pdf

No, my friend wants to gain parental responsibility; however, the other side of the family has made it difficult.
