Record of past divorce?

I'm assisting someone with a court case against X.

I know that X was divorced at some time in the past, and have a strong indicator that this was due to domestic violence (with X being the abuser). As far as I am aware, there was no police involvement or criminal conviction.

Obviously, there is a Register of Marriages. But how to find out about a divorce? All suggestions welcome.
