  • How to proceed with Divorce when i cannot find my ex-wife?

    Hi all.

I need some advice on how to proceed with divorcing my ex-wife, who I have not had contact with for the last six years.

After some idle years, I have finally decided to proceed with divorcing my ex-wife. Though, there is a caveat, she cannot be located at all. I wanted to find her, so that I can ask her to agree to a divorce.

I have been to her last known address, new tenants live there. She is not on social media and her mobile number is dead. I also sent her an email and got a bounce back message.
Finally, I tried to find her family members who live abroad (ex-wife is not originally from the UK), to no avail.

    My questions are:

    1. Can i apply for divorce through the courts, even though she cannot be found? I was told by a friend that the courts will want to do their own investigation.
    2. I have read online, there is a form that I can complete - D13B, to apply for 'dispense of service'. Do i wait for the courts to do something before i complete this form?
    3. Can i use a search company to try and find her?
    4. In terms of costs, what is the cheapest way to apply for a divorce?
    5. Do I need a solicitor at all?

    Sorry for the questions.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.
