Email from solicitor’s secretary

My ex and I are on good terms. In Nov 2022 I instructed my solicitor to start proceedings and so she did the necessary work and sent the appropriate paperwork to my ex for him to sign. For various reasons, my ex has still to see his solicitor and sign the paperwork but I told my solicitor that I was ok with this and we would get the signed paperwork to her in due course. Her secretary has emailed two or three times checking on the progress and I have spoken with the solicitor on one further occasion.
I’m finding the bill I received today difficult to interpret. Can some advise if the emails from my solicitors secretary would have be chargeable and so included in my invoice? Thanks

Two points -

First, you are entitled to query the bill, to request clarification.

Second, have you looked at the solicitors' 'client care' letter, which should give details of how they charge.
