  • Any rights to home owned by in laws?

I’ve split from my husband. We live in a house bought by his mum. It was always promised to us if we paid rent until the mortgage was up. We could take that over and keep the equity and deposit. Nothing was ever written up to prove this agreement.

Now we’ve split he wants his money out and I can’t find the funds to cover the outstanding mortgage and his share. I live here with our 2 young children. Do I have any rights to rely on in this situation? How do I try to secure something for me and the children?

Do you have a tenancy agreement? Is his mother still the owner of the property?
