  • Separation (unmarried)

    Hi

My partner and I are splitting up. We’re not married. We’ve worked out who gets what etc. He’s keeping the house and I move out with the kids. But he wants us to have a legal document stating exactly who gets what etc. The only reason being he doesn’t want me coming back in 6 months and asking for more money etc. I don’t plan on doing this and legally don’t think I could anyway?
I don’t want to spend money on solicitors fees etc. Am I right in thinking that when I do move out and take what we’ve agreed on that I wouldn’t have any legal leg to stand on if I went back and asked for more money in months or years to come?
Hopefully someone can answer my question so I can get out of this house!

    Hi Carla

What is the position with the house? Is it owned, if so by who, or is it rented. Do you have any other joint assets?

      Hi Phillip,

Yes we have a mortgage on the house in both our names. We don’t have any other joint assets.
      thanks
