In a thread with many contributors, I'm surprised at the sudden lack of responses.

I'll admit that I was partly playing "devil's advocate" with my contributions but I feel that this has been vindicated by the sudden silence.

Will the floodgates open?, we'll see.

Silence? Oh dear. Many would be delighted if I were silent. You see sometimes the only way to deal with a silly question is to give a silly answer.
As mentioned above, ad nauseam, there are many people described as having LD who are not just ‘paying their way’ but really making a difference to other lives and society. There as many people without LD dependant on benefits as those who have been diagnosed.

Now I have a huge problem with mathematics. I spent school days wonder why the work-shy farmer A cannot plough as quickly as Farmer B. My solution, rather than working out the size of field v the speed of the ploughing would be ‘Get a Holland, Much better than that old Massey Ferguson’. I probably have some form of LD but instead of diagnosis we got a belt of the rosary.
Hey, I just thought of another good example…. FOREST GUMP! (yea, I know, I know) But you know sometimes you just have to laugh.

so ... what evidence do you need??
1, that people with Learning Difficulties can lead a 'valid/contributory' life?
2, that people with Learning Difficulties can be a part of society (instead of a drain)?
3, that people with Learning Difficulties can be wanted/needed?

I wonder if you are familiar with an old Anglo-Saxon word. Usually followed by the words You or Off.

Not far from where I live there is a centre for " disabled" people of a large spectrum where training in many skills is available some items I've seen any craftsman would be proud of.

No one ( in my opinion) whatever their percieved disability should be judge by what others think about their worth/contribution or benefit needs.

Many years ago I had a serviceman with a severe TS problem one of the smartest , intelligent people I have ever met and by heck when he opened up the verbals the foe had no chance!!

The first Ghosting contract I ever had was to write an auto-biography for a chap who was totally illiterate. He was not diagnosed with autism until he was in prison. He was in prison for one of the most ingenious crimes ever. Now I am not endorsing his crimes but I have to admire this was one very clever chap. Had he not been abused all his life and flung from one institution to another he could have become famous instead of infamous. The problem was there was no support system in place, no benefits if you want me to be clear, to support him until he found his perfect place in life. He might have been the person who found a cure for cancer or solved the world food shortage but ‘society’ did not want to waste their time and money on him as a child and young adult.
And NO – I am cannot name him for obvious reasons!

I thought it was obvious,those are those who contribute, the "givers" rather than the takers

having read your quotes on this thread i really do have to say you show yourself up.

I have a learning disability, i am dyslexic, i take from no one, i have never claimed any of the benefits id be entitled to now, i work, i earn my keep, and im also a very experienced litigator with various university qualifications. All of which have been achieved despite my illness / disability.

so, would you class me as taker?
