My hubby is a heavy drinker and he is not interested in taking care of the family. So we were separated 6 months back, but not legally. I have two kids and it's not possible to grow them with my pathetic salary. I would like to know is there any chance to get a compensation from him for my kids? Can anyone help me please?

Carol, has he refused to financially support his/ your children? Are you still married to him? Does your ex partner live in the UK or overseas? As he is no longer living with you, you may be able to child support. Contact the Citizens Advice Bureau for details. Hi Carol ..
Fully agree with contacting the CAB to discuss those options about enforcing child support.
From my experience on the ground, that may be easier if he is employed and receives a PAYE income. If he is self-employed, payment becomes intolerably hard to obtain. If he claims a state benefit, you may be able to gain a deduction from that but again it will be absolutely nominal.
I assume that you have taken advice on what current state benefits you can obtain as a single parent?Comment

We are living in Canada. My ex-husband is refusing to pay any financial support and also to separate legally. I am not getting why he is behaving like this. So I am thinking to approach an attorney. What is your opinion regarding this?Comment

My friend proposed to go to a lawyer named Monteith http://www.monteithbaker.com/practice-areas/family-law/. I don't hold much knowledge about the systems of Canada. Because we have been settled here for the last 9 months. Does anyone here know about this attorney? Or do you have something else to advice me. I don't have any relatives to steer me.Comment
