My Son until 20:30 last night was living with his girlfriend and her 3 children, last night as he was leaving for work (he started a job on Saturday where he works nights) she threw him out and told him not to come back. Prior to him getting this job they had a joint claim with the DWP and the money was paid into her account, she has told him he can have his things but she is keeping all the money from the claim, leaving him with no money at all - can she do that legally? She says its because she has been keeping him for the last 6 weeks since he had moved back in and they were sorting out his new claim - they seperated briefly 6 weeks ago and then got back together (big mistake!)

Re: Son's problem with ex
Frank answer? Leave it, and her, permanently.
Although he might technically have a claim, the likelihood of getting any money back is vanishingly small. Don't delay in telling the DWP that both his and her circumstances have changed, or there will be big trouble coming from that direction.

Re: Son's problem with ex
Thanks enquirer, I dont think he will be stupid enough to go back so fingers crossed its permanent (she's a nasty piece of work) the problem he has is that he now has no money at all, no where to live, no where to even stay tonight (its his night off), council cant help as he was in arrears when he left his last flat with them. I live in Kent he is 170 miles away so I can't do much for him other than offer support, I'm not in a position financially to help either. He is on his way to the DWP now, but other than letting them know he is no longer living there, I dont suppose there is much they can do to help him either. One life - Live it!
