  • Obtaining details of family will and fair apportion of estate

    Hi there

My mother passed away last year (December 2021). I didnt have a good relationship with her because she was abusive towards me. So she left the estate to the eldest child (my sister). Unfortunately for me the relationship between me and her isnt good (though not as bad as beween me and my mother). I am writing to ask what are my rights as a family member. DO I have the right to view the details of what is in the will (ie details of assets and what assets has been apportioned to whom)? and is their any legislation hat can support me claim a fair amount of the aseets in question . I suspect not but if there is a chance I can legitimately request details of what is in the will i shall be grateful. thanks to anyone who can help

A copy of the will can be obtained here :https://www.gov.uk/search-will-probate

You might be able to make a claim against your mothers estate under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975.
There is a six month time limit from date probate granted in which to make a claim, altho' that can be varied by the court.
