Custody of child after the death of ex-wife

Dear all

I need help with regards to my situation; basically

• My ex wife has died recently and my child who she had the primary custody and I had the visitation rights has now temporarily moved with her grandparents.
• I live an hour journey from my child's grandparents
• My child goes to a local school there.
• I do not have a good relationship with grandparents as they are still bitter about my divorce from 10 years ago even though ex-wife happily moved on with her life after re-marrying!
• I have the parental responsibility towards my child by being married to the mother at the time of child's birth as well on the birth certificate. I have been present in her life throughout and she stayed weekends and holidays with me regularly.
• I have paid regular child maintenance and for all other needs of my child
• I suspect if I leave my child with my child with ex-wife's parents who I believe are toxic towards mine and child's relationship, I believe they will alienate my child from me ? They have never communicated with me. Ex wife was very co-operative with regards to child's contact. They are not responding to messages requesting future living arrangements for the child or either advising whether my ex-wife has mentioned any wish in her will in terms of my child's future stay ?

Would really appreciate your advice on this matter, where to I stand in terms of acquiring
