  • Home Educating My Daughter

    Hi

Hope you can help. My daughter who is 11, suffers anxiety and awaits an ASD assessment. She lost a lot of time in year 6. In a nutshell, I would like her home educated because of her anxieties, mum is against me. I deregistered her from her proposed secondary school.
I have now received a letter saying they won't accept her homeschooling unless both parents agree. I was told that it was a unilateral decision and that mum would have to get a court order to do this.
I am very confused by it all and I worry about my little girl.

Are you and Mum separated ? Who does your Daughter live with most of the time and who do you intend would homeschool her?

It should of course be a joint decision and both parents with parental responsibility would need to be in agreement. Have you discussed as a family with your daughter ?

    ( redacted letter )

      Hi

It would be joint, mum wont communicate with me directly. I applied for mediation because of the issue and she has not responded to their letter.

I got this and it contradicts all I have been told.

Answers to Ame's questions would be good

Have you looked at Kent's HE policy stephen22 ? https://www.kent.gov.uk/education-an...education#null

Legally they cannot stop you from HEing your daughter although if one of you (as parents) disagree with the decision to homeschool it will be a lot harder for you to continue without intervention from the LA. You could also look into flexi-schooling as an alternative (the LA and your daughter's mother would possibly be more open to this as she would still be in school for some of the time)

It may also be an idea if you get in touch with a few local groups too - a good place to start is http://southeast.homeeducationnetwor...al_groups.html
Debt is like any other trap, easy enough to get into, but hard enough to get out of.
