  • Harassment at work

    Hey, looking for some advice.
    I was signed off work for two works due to injury. When I return to work there were a few new employees. I was having a conversation with one of them and from that the next thing I knew their was gossip going around. She has told people from my team that she likes me and for them not to say anything, if you are telling everyone then surely you want it to get back to me. She has stated to others that she has turned women before and that I'm on her list and that I have told her I like her. I've also heard that she has been jealous of my working relationships with certain male staff. I left it as you know how people like to talk and make things up. I then heard off of several people that she had said we nearly kissed and I touched her bum?! (This is in an area where there is no camera) So I spoke to her yesterday regarding this as I was absolutely furious. I spoke to her in view of colleagues but not close enough for them to hear and her reply was no I didn't say any of those things but I do find you attractive and if you want to touch my bum you can. During the whole conversation she was right up in my face I had to keep moving back. I knew she was lying so I spoke to my supervisor and hr department and they said for us to have a meeting and for me to get written statement from my co workers stating everything she has said. We had this meeting today. She basically said everything I have heard was not true. I made in clear in the meeting I don't like women and her reply was so why are you always in my face as if to imply I do like her. I lost my cool which I knew wasn't good but I'm absolutely fed up of the lies. Our supervisor said this needs to stop otherwise this will happen to her and this will happen to me?! I haven't done anything wrong, I felt like I was the one getting in trouble as well when I am the victim.
    I left the meeting as she said she wanted to continue the meeting without me as I was shouting. I was called back up after and was told she finally admitted to saying all the things that I was told she has said and that she had said i touched her bum so that it would get back to me and I would leave her alone. So she's now trying to say I was going after her. I do not like woman I am straight. I believe she is saying all of this now because she now knows it's gone to far, Im not quite sure what she was expecting behaviouring the way she has. I now feel I need to take this further as it is harassment. I can't afford for her to lie and say I was harassing her! when she has been harrassing me. We was told not to talk to each other I haven't spoken to her or even looked at her since the allegations came out only yesterday to confront her but she always seems to be behind me or lingering around. I have been told in the meeting she was fidgeting, rolling her eyes, shifting around and just couldn't keep still or string two words together. They believe she may be on something and have some mental problems. They said they need to tread carefully and that something like this happened in her previous work place. I do believe she is not stable and don't want to go back to work because of all of this I feel so uncomfortable and angry.

    The company also has a responsibility to you.

    Depending on how strongly you feel, it may be worth speaking to your HR department about how you feel informally first. I do not know your company set but can you be moved to a different department to minimise your contact with her - this maybe something you can discuss with them?

    If you cannot resolve the matter informally then the next option would be to raise a formal grievance.
