Don't wait for them to offer it.
Go back to them now and say that as you'd hoped (and had suggested in your earlier note) they now have some permanently on the 3-11 shift, So, you are happy to start a permanent 7-3 shift next week.

Unfortunately, they said at the beginning of the notice period when asked about that, they said that it wouldn't be happening (doing the opposite shift permanently).

They'd rather more people did permanent 3-11 to be honest.

Today is the final day, so should find out what's happening, at last.

They didn't get anything sorted and the stress and anxiety at work was causing me distress while at work. I had trouble catching my breath and heart beating out of my chest and at times chest pains as well.
I went to see a doctor on the 3rd of July who gave me a sick note so I could step away from the situation for a couple of weeks.
I received a letter from work inviting me in for a meeting on the 13th July at 11am to talk about my welfare. We spoke for a few minutes then my manager gave me a letter saying from the 24th July I'd be doing the new shift patterns and would be starting on the 3-11pm shift.
At the bottom of the letter it says:

I must confirm to you that if you do not accept and start the new working pattern by 31st July 2017, this could be considered as failing to follow a reasonable request and will be investigated and could lead to disciplinary action which ultimately may result in dismissal

(I thought it was quite inappropriate for them to give me a letter like this at my "welfare" meeting.)

So they are threatening me with disciplinary action if I don't do something that I've already told them I cannot do.

Is the only option I have left , to look for another job elsewhere and hand my notice in?

Can such a drastic change of hours be classed as a "reasonable request"?
