SSP payments

Good Morning

I have a question regarding SSP payments. I work 15.75hrs over 3 days per week earning £7.20. I have been off sick with a fit note after a major op. last month I asked my employer to look into SSP as I do not receive sick pay and they said I was not getting anything.

They spoke to the payroll, who have said that I am due £17.69 per day which works out at £53.07 instead of the £88.45 on the government web site. They say that it is because I only work part time, but I can see nothing about part time payments on the site.

Can somebody point me to the correct place to see where this is stated?

If you are paid more than £112 per week and unless you have had a period of SSP in the last 8 weeks previous to your current absence then you will qualify for an SSP payment once you have been off work for 3 days. SSP is paid weekly at a rate of £88.45. So if you were off from 20 Feb to 3 March i.e. two weeks and your normal days of work were a Tues, Wed Thurs your SSP would be calculated on the day rate of £17.69 for the Thurs and Fri (the Mon to Wed are qualifying days) of the first week plus a full £88.45 for the second week.

Thanks for this reply, i see where they got £17.69 from now. So am I correct in thinking that all other weeks should be paid at £88.45? My working days are Monday Weds Friday 5.15hrs per day 15.45 per week.

Would it make any difference if I was on a small about of top up benefits? I'm on a disability allowance. I have been trying to call HMRC for a week now to totally clarify but am unable to get through.

You are correct in thinking that all other full weeks should be paid at £88.45 per week.

I am not very sure if there is any affect on your disability allowance but I'm going to tag [MENTION=141]enaid[/MENTION] and [MENTION=49370]Kati[/MENTION] who may be able to help you on this.

I'm unsure whether SSP is affected by disability allowance, but I would suggest you tried contacting HMRC via their web-chat service instead of the telephone (I've used it myself a couple of times and it's a lot quicker/easier than calling )
