• just made redundant a few questions

so the company i work for went into administration and i am now redundant
have the paperwork from administrators and have to look through it all tomorrow
presumably i now need to sign on?
partner earns around 9K per year though
so doubt we will get any help with council tax etc?
also we have payment protection on mortgage
hoping that they will honor this, presumably if not we will have to claim miss selling PPI?
Also i have one job booked in next week on a freelance basis
would it be better to wait until that job is finished before setting any of this in motion?
many thanks

Hello D.
It is horrible when this happens but you will survive – many of us have!
( Kati do you know the right expert beagles to help?) The clever gang will be along, possibly tomorrow and they will steer you through this.
Do you have any other debts besides the mortgage? Might be a good idea to have the details handy as you may need to contact them all.
In the meantime, try not to fret. You will get through this.

I'm sorry this has happened. It seems to be becoming more and more common.

presumably i now need to sign on Yes you need to sign on as soon as possible, as they won't back date your claim
partner earns around 9K per year though
so doubt we will get any help with council tax etc? JSA is based on your NI record for the last two years, so you will get that. But the benefits side of it I can't help with. But you should apply anyway.

would it be better to wait until that job is finished before setting any of this in motion No. You need to get on with things now as backdating of anything you are entitled to won't be likely
many thanks

The RPS tend to take, on average, about 6 - 8 weeks to deal with claims. They will deduct JSA from your claim whether or not you claim it - so if you don't then you will lose out on that amount. You will also need to keep evidence of the work that you do - and make sure that they have full details. This probably won't make a difference to your payment assuming the work was not arranged before the company declared administration, but you may be required to prove that. So make sure you mention it.

Re: just made redundant a few questions

thanks all
i haven't had any paperwork or pack yet and am officially still employed until tomorrow
anyone know if we will get support with council tax etc?
i note the fact the work needing to be proven to have been booked post adninstration
i was there for around 8.5 years and am over 40
so i presume i get 1.5 weeks for every year plus my 79 hours holiday owing?

also i attended an interview for a job on the day the company went into administration
haven't heard and wont hear till end of next week
presumably that wont effect my claim in anyway?

Re: just made redundant a few questions

and also to add to the confusion, i was also self employed alongside my permanent position and was having my freelance tax taken from my PAYE this year, however i presume now i will face a tax bill, and i wonder whether i will qualify for a tax refund?

Re: just made redundant a few questions

As far as I know the concurrent self employment shouldn't make a difference. But that's not common so I can't be sure. It seems rather odd to have it as part of your PAYE - i've never heard of that kind of arrangement, so I can't advise on the position. I think it would be a good idea to speak to the administrator about what they will require, because this is an unusual position, and they may query it anyway.

Re: just made redundant a few questions

If you are entitled to redundancy pay and theire isn't enough money in the company to pay it, you will be able to claim this https://www.gov.uk/claim-redundancy. The administrators will explain if you need to do this.

What you should do now depends a bit on how much you are making from your self employment. Although you will be entitled to JSA (contributions based) because you have paid NI whatever your partner earns, this won't apply if you are already making a lot of money though your self employment.

Can you increase your earnings from this? If you are doing it full time, you may be able to get some help from Working Tax Credits.

General advice is to move your finances "onto a war footing" - now is the time to check all DDs and STOs and decide if they are essential, switch utilities, cut out eating out etc

If you have unsecured debts, you should decide if you can rerealistically carry on paying these - your mortgage , prioprity debts and everyday living bills come first.

- - - Updated - - -

Having a changed tax code to collect some self employed tax sounds pretty normal to me. Your tax will all come out in the wash at the end. If you aren't getting any income from employment fro the last two months of the year, you would be a getting a reund back for that and this may cancel out the self employed tax.

Re: just made redundant a few questions

I'm not familiar with that taxation arrangement. But the administrators have already issued the claims paperwork - the op said so in their first post.
