Shift times on rotas query

Hi

I work for a well known retailer as a customer services assistant. I'm on a 20hr a week contract and required to do additional over time for the business needs.

Occasionally I have noticed my manager has put shifts that state to work until "end" meaning that there is a start time i.e 2:30pm-"END". I really don't like this concept/type of shift pattern and really just wanted know your views if this allowed or not?

If you are asking about the law, then there is nothing to say it isn't allowed. As long as you are paid for your hours of work, then the employer is doing nothing wrong. If the shift doesn't suit you then you can always attempt to refuse the hours, but I doubt you would have a job for much longer if you do. Is there some specific reason why you don't want shifts like this, or is it only preference?
