  • Paternity Leave & Awkward Boss

Good afternoon. My wife had a baby two weeks ago today so I am currently on paternity leave. However last Monday my boss rang me and said that I was due back last Friday, I told him I wasn't as the paternity leave doesnt start until the day the baby is born. He said "I cant accept that".....to which he then said "I'll tell you what you enjoy the rest of your paternity leave and I'll deal with it when you come back"

An hour later my phone rang and it was my boss again, I said hello and he was just started ranting, at this point it became apparent that he had rang me by mistake and was slagging me off. I put my phone on loudspeaker as my wife and sister were present in the room. He called me a "clever c*nt" and continued to call me and then said "I tell you what mate he's f*cking out". At this point i said "Chris you've rang Jay, you've rang Jay" He continued to carry on ranting so I said "Chris its Jay" to which there was silence when he realised he'd rang me and said "Nice one" and ended the call. I haven't heard anything since. What do you advise?

I am very very reluctant to return to work now.

Sounds like your boss is a bit hot headed, I would return to work and see what happens, it may well of been all bluster on a particularly hard day. If he does attempt to make life difficult, raise a grievance pointing out your statutory rights and that you have witnesses to his threats via the telephone.
