Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this. I have had a browse through the forums and although there is several subjects similar to this I feel there are a few differences in my situation!
I currently work for a company with whom I have received additional training. Since completing said training (engineering diploma) my work are reluctant to further my career and utilise my diploma. Over a year from receiving my diploma I am no further forward with career progression than I was before beginning training. Understandable I am now at the stage where I am looking for work elsewhere. I feel that the training was offered to me in order to almost trap me in my current position.
This is the tricky bit. At the time the training was offered I signed an agreement stating if I left the company I would be liable for a percentage of the training cost dependant on timeframe between graduating and leaving. A fair request I thought at the time as my understanding is the course was a significant expense.
I have no intention on avoiding paying costs. At the end of the day I agreed to pay and that's fine. My worry is in the event I find a new job work my notice and come my final pay day I'm left with no wages and a bill for what's left of the training costs. The full costs of training was never revealed to me however I believe the cost to be around £8000-10000 as it stands I would be due 66% of this my current monthly take home wage would maybe cover 20% of this final bill.
Financially I would be unable to take the hit of loosing a months wage like this and the worry of this is affecting my career progression.
Legally where would I stand? Ideally I would like to set up some form of payment plan with my employer to settle the debt but in the event they say no and demand the debt in full is there any options on my side.
