  • Could someone be Suspended or Dismissed after they have Resigned

The title of the thread may seem like a strange question, so some background may help.

Earlier this year, I raised a formal grievance against a person in a senior position within the company I work for because that person verbally threatened me. After two months the outcome of the grievance was not in my favour. As a result, earlier this week, I resigned in writing with immediate effect. However, in order to help out my line manager with the handover of my work, I verbally agreed with him to work until the end of the week.
As the company is spread out in various locations throughout the world, later in the week I emailed some of the people I had worked with during my 12 years at the company, simply to say farewell and explain what had happened and the reason why I had resigned. In the email, I mentioned being threatened, the outcome of the grievance and my thoughts about whole affair. I did not mention anyone by name in the email. But some of things I said about management in general weren't good! In an early email to one person, I did mention the person who threatened me by name and stated I felt they were and arrogant sod and didn't have the courage to face me and apologise.

Earlier today I was suspended pending a disciplinary hearing for gross misconduct. I suspect the outcome of that hearing will be summary dismissal. I'm tempted not to attend that hearing as I have already resigned. So my questions are:

Can I be suspended and probably dismissed even though I have already resigned?
Do I have to attend this hearing?
Is there any other legal issues I should be worried about?

Many thanks for any help you are able to give.

    Regards
    RR
