taken in office and told i had been stealing, after a formal meeting, given option to resign on the spot there and then or come for disaplinery,
can any more actions be taken by an employer if resigned there and then, like to later have to attend a disaplinery or can the police get involved after resignation from a company

If the employer has lost money through the stealing, he can take you to a County Court (ie not criminal) to claim the money back. The employer could also report it as crime in which case you will have a criminal record if they (the police) can prove liability (ie theft offence). They could also claim for the losses at a Magistrates' Court for example. What was the value of the item/ items you had stolen? What evidence of the stealing did they have? Was it on CCTV, was it clearly you? Have you admitted stealing? Criminal law defence, is 'you believed' you were given consent to take it, ie a gift. It's a stretch for this defence to be successful even if the belief (your belief, that is) is unreasonable held (by you) as long's you believed it, it would be relevant.

Hmm, in that case perhaps you should attend the disciplinary with maybe a friend representing you. Are you in the Union? Would a work friend be able to speak on your behalf in a disciplinary (if you don't feel confident to). What investigation has the supermarket (your employer carried out so far)? Have you had any warning in writing. Your circumstances do not seem like a crime to me. Who reported this as stealing? Were you on your way out from your shift and purchased the goods, ie on your way home?

i was given option to resign or have disaplinery, for which i choose to resign there n then, and to think of my future prospects for employment rather to take the chance of them sacking me , i am in union but did not feel i needed her from the start has did not know what was going office for , then when started being accused my whole body seemed to of froze and was unable to talk and think or remember properley from things that were being said that much was not in a mind to ask for a rep, i was given a formal chat with accusations and shown a cctv shot of myself unpacking shopping one end and then packing my shopping at the other end of checkout that s when it was said id only purchased 3 items of my shopping out of 11, when i packed my shopping i inserted my card into payment machine entered my pin , removed card and given reciet and left and walked out of the store by my self, no warning in writing just a copy of the notes taken in the formal meeting, was told id paid £9.53 for the 3 items which after couple days checked my bank statements and there was no spent fees of £9.53, not sure who had reported this sitsuation, i was in the supermarket has a customer and not in work uniform
