Refused holiday request - can employer do that?

    Yes, but when they make a decision to change to a more rigid regime, like only blocks of Monday to Sunday, it's not a very good employee-relations practice to wait until an employee books some holiday to inform them of the change.
    Also the policy change is incomplete.
    What happens to odd leftover leave days?
    Does he lose them?
    Do they give him a couple of extra days to make up the full wek?

    GinaAnd, he could try asking a load of questions by way of a written grievance.

      Yeah, he can not carry any holidays over and if not used, he looses them.
      Funny thing is that 28 days allowance does not devide into blocks of 5. So this new "procedure" effectively implies that he would lose 3 days each year...

      I am thankfull for all your comments - we will challenge this by questioning and hoping to compromise in some way for at least this request (booking done and paid for unfortunatelly) if they dont see any sense of how stupit this all is. And look for another job in a meantime.
