  • Stoppage of pay

    Hi

Following an incident at work some months ago the management at my place of work decided to take action to prevent employees smoking/vaping in the workshop, the new rules were also aimed at stopping people using their phone between tea breaks.

Basically they introduced two new job cards, one for smoking and one for using a mobile phone. Any time spent on either of these cards would be added up and then the time spent on them would be classed as unpaid. However at the time no information was given about how frequently the time spent on the cards would be added up and in turn how often adjustments to pay would be made.

It might also be worth noting that no written confirmation was given to clarify or agree to the changes. It has now just been announced (approx 3 months after the introduction of the new system) that they plan to make pay adjustments every 3 months, we are weekly paid.

Could someone please help me understand what action the company should take if they wish to lawfully stop our pay. I would like to remain as objective as possible on the issue, so any info good or bad is appreciated.

    Many thanks
