Where do I stand on 'ownership' of a mobile phone number?

I've just been sacked, and wondering what options I have in getting a phone number back..

I had the number at the company I used to work for - I took redundancy and when moving to the new company my phone number was signed over to them.. They have paid the bill for 18months or so

Now I've been sacked - is there any way I could get this number back?

Does it help that the contract has just run out..?

I spoke to the network and they said that someone in the company would need to sign it over to me. I asked this already and pretty certain I got fobbed off.. Especially seeing as the reason I was sacked was so ridiculous.. (other topic)

Hi,

I'd think the advice given by the network is correct, the company will have rights to the number or if like you say the contracts ended the number may have been already offloaded.

Do you know if it's still in use.

I think the number was stopped yesterday i.e. would no longer take incoming calls - so assuming it's dead.. (the contract would have literally just run out so I assume they didn't keep it on a rolling/30days cycle

Why should they give you the phone number is it the number that customers call if so giving you the number potentially gives you customers for your new business

More to the point, why did you sign over your phone contract to them in the first place? Surely they could have just given you a business contracted mobile phone for business use. Which would have meant your personal contacts would have been separate and in your own separate phone.
