Son's Employer have not paid him

Hello,

Hopefully someone can give me some advise please. My son is 17 and has a weekly part-time job. He has a contract that he will be paid on the last Friday of every month at a rate of £30.00 per week.

He was due to be paid on Friday 27th November and wasn't. We have been chasing them and they have not returned phone calls. They passed a message through to his supervisor stating they had 'cocked up' and that he would be paid today, however he hasn't.

Please could someone advise as to what course of action I should take as I believe they are breaking the law and my son is being treated extremely poorly.

Well, you're absolutely right; they're treating him very poorly indeed.
But I'm afraid that there isn't a quick solution for this problem.
Legal action will probably take months.
So, the only thing I can suggest is to keep on at them until they pay up.

Is the employer require to have a permit from the local council (call the council to ask if they need one and if they have one or not) its illegal to employ children under the age of 16 in areas where bye-laws require employers to have such permits.

As for the unpaid wages, threaten to report them to police for child slavery (via deception as per section 3 (6) modern slavery act 2015) as well as taking civil action for recovering the unpaid wages and compensation for distress caused to your child due to there non payment which will have caused him significant damage in regards to his view on employment and trust towards future employers when he leaves school!

p.s as hes 17 he should be paid a minimum of £3.87ph So i assume he does 7hrs and 45mins work per week. Any more than that and then hes not being paid minimum wage that hes entitled too either.
