    Hi, new to this forum so be gentle....
    I am looking for some advice regarding probation period at work, I started a new job in January this year and received a contract stating that I have to work a 3 month probation period, during this time my pay would be much lower than everyone else (on average £100 - £120 a week after tax), I was informed (verbally) that at the of the probation I would be on full wages, yet when the 3 months were up I received a sheet of paper with a 12 month pay structure which only increased by £5 a week after 6 and 9 months and the other £100+ would be after 12 months.
    Am I right in thinking that at the end of your probation they must pay full wages as you are now on a full contract (and yes I did pass my probation)..

    There's nothing in law to say specifically what an employer must pay you when you complete your probation period - it depends entirely on the terms and conditions of your employment.

    What does your contract or written statement say?

      It all depends on what's considered 'full wages'. It's not uncommon for employers to pay a bit less during the probation period but it should be clear how much you will be paid during the period and how much your salary will be after that. Your contract should state what your salary is supposed to be.

        Hi, thanks for reply, there is no mention in my contract about wages after the probation period, this was only done verbally, it just states what I will earn during probation, I was told that after I pass my probation I would receive full wages, there are about 30 people with the same issue across all 3 shifts, some of which now have the union involved.
        I did complain about this with a manager and he said "ignore your contract, we do a 12 month probation here"............... that's right....... ignore my legally binding contract!
        They gave me a sheet of paper with the pay structure so I have it in writing what the full wages will be at the end of the probation period (or at least what they consider the probation period), so with that and a contract saying 3 month probation it sound easy to win........................................ if only it were that simple.
