Sorry if this may be a stupid post but really not sure of advice given by union convenor today so would appreciate a comment or two.
In a nutshell myself and others work in a local authority office. To save money the office is to be closed down in the new year and the roles moved to an office 10 miles away. It's already been agreed that we have no mobility clause in our contracts to force us to move. My querie is that we have been told that our positions our not "at risk" as there is alternative employment at this other office although daily working hours are different. Our positions will only be considered as "at risk" if these new positions are deemed unsuitable. What I am struggling with is that if I am not at risk of redundancy now why do they need to offer alternative employment. When I deliberately asked why I can't stay where I am the answer was because the jobs will no longer exist at the current office. I'm happy to be told I'm wrong but surely my job is at risk as of now and moving to the new office is alternative employment?
