Hi everyone
OK let me start off by saying I'm new to this forum and am in need of advice.
I am going to university in October (not long away now) and have had verbal discussion with my line manager about reducing my hours of work in my contract from 40 hours per week to 16. She has agreed and in fact was her idea to do so.
As of yesterday afternoon I was informed by my line manager that she will need my notice in and that I won't have to work my full 4 week notice period. At the time I was busy and didn't really pay attention but once I had realised what was said I started to question it.
From what I know of the situation it should just be a variation of contract right? And technically I won't be leaving employment?
After this I was told by her assistant manager that they had already been conducting interviews to replace me with another full time member of staff. To me this doesn't sound like I am keeping my job.
So I decided to call my head office to speak with HR, which apparently we don't have in my company. I was told by a lady at head office that I should discuss the process of reducing my hours with my line manager, which I don't feel I can do as she has already told me she needs my letter of resignation of my current contract.
Finally my question, what do I do? I feel like this is a case of constructive dismissal by getting me to resign? Please can anyone shed some light of this matter and help me with the process.
P.s I am not an idiot there is no way I was ever going to give this woman my resignation with promise that I would go to 16hours a week.
