I would like some advice regarding my situation at work please;
I currently work at a GP surgery as a receptionist, a few weeks ago I made a mistake, I signed for a package that contained a box of (expensive) vaccinations however at the time of receiving the package I was unaware that it was meant to put straight into the fridge.
A couple of days later my boss (practice manager) called me to have a word with me, she asked me if I had notice anything on the box, at first I said no and then on closer inspection I notice tape on the box that stated it needed to be refrigerated.
I apologised profusely and acknowledged my mistake but did inform her that normally those type of packages are clearly marked and the delivery we are told if it needs to be put in the fridge, also the fact that if the nurses or other staff were expecting these types of packages we are notified on the day. I even asked her that if she was in my position would she have noticed it and her answer was "probably not". She told me she would tell the partners and not to worry about it.
Yesterday i received an email stating that I am invited to a meeting regarding a first stage misconduct and this meeting will allow me to explain what happened (which I already did). It also states that this misconduct will be on my personal record for 6 months.
I am severely upset about this as I was intending to leave the job soon to pursue another career in healthcare (which the PM is aware of as they were unable to give me another position at the surgery) and if this is put on my record this will be on my reference and destroy any job prospects I have in the 6 months.
Please can any one advise me if the surgery is within their right to do this?
