Re: Employment for people who has committed crime?
I notice you have posted on here previously, (thank you for that) but you are now requesting advice about Californian Employment Law.
As this is a UK based forum you might find responses a bit thin on the ground, but good luck anyway.:tinysmile_grin_t:

Re: Employment for people who has committed crime?
I am by no means an expert in the law of California, but I believe that the law is as follows:
In most circumstances, an employer cannot ask a job applicant for information about:
- an arrest or detention that did not result in a criminal conviction (California Labor Code section 432.7); or
- a conviction that has been dismissed, sealed, expunged or eradicated (California Code of Regulations section 11017).
The California Courts website has a guide for people to clean up their criminal record (http://www.courts.ca.gov/1070.htm).- As battery is a minor offence, it might be possible to have the conviction dismissed in which case the employer could not take it into account (and the conviction would not have to be disclosed to prospective employers).
- Or if the battery was committed by a juvenile, it is possible to have the criminal record sealed.
