I am working in an audit firm, although there's no contract in place but I did enter into a verbal understanding that if I leave this internship before one and half years, I'll not be given any experience letter. Now my back has started to give me problems as of late and I'm finding it troublesome to sit for copious amounts of time. I'm being paid less than the minimum wage, being forced to work for around 12-15 hours a day without any overtime payments, hectic workload i.e work that should be done by 3 people. These problems have made my back pain worse and worse. I can get all the medical certificates and x rays from my doctor which depict the deteriorating condition of my back. But the problem is that my boss is not letting me go he is threatening to report me to my professional body if I leave even though there's no contract that restricts me to stay for full 1.5 years ?
I know it's a UK forum But I'm from Pakistan, where there are no rights to protect humans, let alone employees. Although my professional body is UK body.
I want to know what if any disciplinary actions can my professional body take any action against me, since the contract is between just me and the employer and not the professional body. And I have ample reasons to leave such as medical problems, working conditions etc.
What to do in this situation?
P.S Multiple persons have left this firm this way and employer has never done anything to them.
