  • Daily Mail threatens to contact my employer

Today, I posted a comment on a Daily Mail article. It was about the general election. Apparently, it did not meet their posting rules and they emailed to say this :

    "Hello,

Your account has been permanently de- activated for going against the Community Guidelines.

You are no longer allowed to post on the Daily Mail or other Associated Newspapers Ltd sites using this or any other user. Please be advised that should you post again we reserve the right to contact your ISP/employer and seek that action is taken against you.

    Regards,
    Senior Community Editor
    Daily Mail"

So I am British and live in Taiwan, where I have worked for 8 years. So how do they know my employer? Even so, is it legal to contact an employer about such a post? This sounds really dodgy to me!
    Thanks!

    Hello Debtisbad
Did any of your comments contain excessive swearing, threaten anyone or use phrases or language likely to incite riot, racial hatred or that sort of thing? If not don’t worry. You probably got an automated response that tells everyone the same c**p. They have just cobbled together a standard reply to scare the bejesus out of you.

Think it would be legal to contact your employer if you had used their internet connection to make the post - hence they say "we may contact your ISP/employer". That said, I very much doubt they would bother taking any action against you unless you were a particularly egregious or serial breaker of their "community guidelines".

Well, I work in Taiwan self employed, so they are welcome to contact me here, as I am my own employer, and I use my own is service.

I tell you what it really is. The Daily Mail today was crazy at promoting the Tories and Royal Family. Because I "dared" to disagree with their editorial, they send a punitive email.
        Thanks!

So I emailed them as follows:

I have consulted with my legal team here in Taiwan and we are ready for you.

What are you threatening me with,* specifically? And thanks for putting your threats in writing.

          Regards
          Thanks!

Oh I wouldn’t have bothered emailing them! They may not even know where Taiwan is unless it is where those ‘genuine Wedgewood’ msllates embellished with pictures of crying kittens come from or perhaps Princess Diana went there once!
