  • Redundancy: Anything I can do?

Hi. I am wondering if someone can offer me some advice?

After being employed at a company for 1.5 years on a permanent basis, I was told my position was at risk on 2nd Feb 2015. During the 'reasonable' consultation that happened over the next 5 days they said as my title off xxxx manager was the only role of this type, if my position was eliminated from the company structure I would be the person effected. It was confirmed my position was redundant on 6th Feb.

I have just found out today that someone internal within the company was just made xxxx manager (exactly the same job title as I had) which is just under 3 months after I left. I am still in contact with this person on a social basis and they said it's similar to what I was doing, but not quite the same.

Is this right that they can use the same job title (and very similar job spec) so soon after the position was 'no longer required'?
    Thanks in advance

Yes, so long as exactly the same duties. Title is irrelevant as its just that, a title. The duties is what is important and therefore what makes the position the position and its the position/role that is made redundant not the title. For example, they could give someone carrying otu completely different duties the exact same title.

Question i have for you though, is did they have any alternative roles available at the time they were making redundancies and if so were they offered to you during the redundancy process?
