false accusation of being drunk at work

Have been falsely and anonymously accused by two females who are related of being drunk at work, absolutely deny but I have been stood down from my job and have to go into the office 3 hours away for a meeting. The office told me it is all confidential but I know one of them has spoken to my colleague about this already. It was not an official complaint but a concern by these two anonymous women. I think it will blow over but the way it is being dealt with is humiliating and frighteneing. I have impeccable records in my work.
Do I just have to accept this. Thanks

No you don't just have to accept this, no formal complaint was made.
I presume the anon females are fellow employees?
Is there any history of bad feelings/ disagreements between you and them?
If either of the women has discussed this with work colleagues which damages
your standing at work because of an unfounded accusation you must make this
known to your employer at the meeting.

I am of the same opinion as you that this will blow over.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I work for a female health screening service. The 2 anonymous were clients who were related to each other. I have no idea who as I see 20 women per day.
The manager has spoken to a personal colleague as she is shocked at this and thought she should warn our other colleagues but she should not have spoken to anyone. My colleague told me as she thinks this could happen to any of us but thinks it should have been kept confidential by management. I have spoken to Professional indemnity insurers who said there is no official charge so no case for them to get involved in. The agency who put me in this job think this has all been handled very badly by the employer. Even though this was "a concern" not a complaint the letter work sent me stated it could involve my registration being cancelled. It is a government dept so I am told they have processes they follow. So dissapointed. I had handed in my notice a month ago anyway, I actually gave them 2 months instead of 2 weeks so as they could get another staff member.
Thanks for reply the meeting is on Monday, I am going to keep short but ask what confidential means to them.
